Evesham Regatta a Competitive Success

The 2016 Evesham Regatta took place last weekend in sunny but cool conditions, with occasional rain showers. On Saturday the main regatta was run upstream over a 1000m course from before Abbey Bridge to just before the historic Workman Bridge in central Evesham.

There were 35 different rowing clubs/schools in attendance from as far away as Swansea, Llandaff, and Monmouth in Wales, Bristol and Pangbourne, and Staines from the River Thames. More local clubs were also in attendance from Evesham, Avon County, Worcester, Ross-on-Wye, Stratford-upon-Avon, and Warwick.

Schools and colleges were also represented for competition for Junior crews - J14, J15, J16 & J18 with a strong presence from Royal Grammar School Worcester, Millfield School, Pangbourne College, Stowe College and Hinksey School.

As well as the junior crews there were many categories for the more mature rowers in the Master's categories.

Most categories had heats, semi-finals, and finals with two crews battling it out over the course, with the bends of the river to contend with, though not with the strong river flow that can be seen on the River Thames.
