The Milk Men rocked up at The Flying Circus in Newark-on-Trent to a venue filled with expectant fans ready for some high power rhythm & blues rock.
The band line-up was Mike Roberts (drums), Lloyd Green (bass), Jamie Smy (vocals) & Adam Norsworthy (guitar & backing vocals). They lined up in very smart suits but with a swagger.
Nominated for five UK Blues Awards and British Blues Challenge finalists, and with a Number 1 blues single and album to their name, they have earned a reputation as the one of the most dynamic and enjoyable live bands on the circuit. The Milk Men are a band made up from the cream of British R’n’B talent and pedigree.
After a busy weekend entertaining fans in Hartlepool and Birmingham the band were looking forward to performing again at The Flying Circus where they have lots of blues-rock fans, from a band who play with attack, energy, melody and a sense of fun.
The band launched into ‘Make Mine a Double’ with Jamie strutting his stuff with backing vocals from Adam. It was a great up-tempo number to kick off the set with a great blues guitar break from Adam. Followed by ‘The Operator’ with its great dance beat rhythm & blues song with more blues guitar breaks from Adam.
The following song, allegedly, was about the time in life when Adam was not as good looking as now, so lost a girlfriend after a holiday. The Band were really tight together on this song with Jamie playing to crowds, along with great harmonies with Adam. Great comedy routine as Adam & Jamie had to swap mics & leads over!
The set included several songs from their highly acclaimed latest album ‘Holy Cow!’ including ‘Hungover’ – with its great rhythm section with heavy lyrics from Jamie and the top selling single ‘One Man Band’ with its funky blues rock tune and great vocals from Jamie.
Other songs which got the full blues rock treatment were ‘Cheap Seats’ with its great guitar starting riff with a funky beat and heavy rhythm section, and ‘Taking Her Time’ dedicated to drummer Mike, a very dapper drummer, with the song playing bass and guitar off each other.
